Hello Mark,
I'm a FNG(Frakken new guy) anywho, have shoot several of your competitors rifles and I enjoy shooting the 50 BMG cartridge.
I made a Promise/resolution this year to Own a 50 BMG rifle, after doing research on the Net for last couple weeks, I've pretty much decided on your firearm for 2 reasons. #1 is cost and #2 is actually because of this BBS and your customers.
My questions is do you offer a stainless barrel? and are there any real benifits to going with a stainless barrel?
Cleaning isn't a big concern, but throat erosion and barrel life are serious concerns as I plan on trying to compete with it on a limited basis and will probably shoot it on an average of 50-100 rds a month maybe more. shots will probably about done at a rate of 1 every 15-30 sec.
The scope mount, mentioned in the homepage that there is a 30 MOA base available, does it replace the Pictinney rail or does it replace both the mounting channel and the pictinney rail. and can the std. rail be replaced by me with the 30 moa easily?
and finally the Bipod, I saw here on the BBS that the standard bipod had 9 " legs or was 9" tall, wasn't clear in the post. is that gonna be a comfortable height for shooting prone or is that mainly for shooting off a bench. do you make an Adjustable unit or can you recommend an adjustable unit that will work with your mounting stud?
final question, if for some reason I'm not happy with the muzzle brake can it be replaced easily by me or do I need to send it back to your shop?
Thanks for you time,
Jason

I HAVE NOT WRITTEN AN ANSWER FOR MARK BEFORE, "BUT" HERE GOES!
I HAVE THE STAINLESS STEEL AND LOVE IT! I REALLY DON'T THINK YOU CAN SHOOT ENOUGH TO SHOOT OUT EVEN THE STANDARD BARREL!
ON THE MUZZLE BRAKE, TRUST ME ON THIS "YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY BETTER"!!!!!
YOU CAN CHANGE THE RAIL OUT YOURSELF!
I REALLY LIKE MY 50BFG AND HAVE A 1.9" 3 SHOOT GROUP AT 400 YARDS! LONGEST I HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO SHOOT!
GOOD SHOOTING WHEN YOU GET YOURS, GEORGE |

G,
Thanks for the reply, I've in the past experienced poor communication when signing up for new forum. Your quick response is apprciated.
I'll take your word on the brake, Do you happen to know the cost of the stainless bbl vs. standard?
and finally I'd like to know some more about the Bipod.
Thanks again,
Jason |

The bipod lug is designed around the M-60 bipod. The M-60 pod is length adjustable, the legs telescope. However, the availability of cheep surplus M-60 pods has thinned. Mark designed his bipod to be an affordable replacement. The Serbu bipod is a fixed length bipod. IIRC, at one point the "M-60 wings" were available as an option, but that option seems to have disappeared. It may have been discontinued to reduce manufacturing costs??
I don't know how importat the height adjustment is, but I did read about 1 person actually cutting down his M-60 pod to make it shorter.
I don't have my BFG yet, waiting on the mag-fed bolt action to be released, TWO WEEKS probably So, I haven't been able to attach my M-60 pod to it and see if it is too high or too low. |

Mine is the standard length 29" and dia. and it cost $200.00 extra about one year ago.
I have only shot the bipod from the bench so far but it works fine!

50Shooter made that mod to his M60 for his AR-50. Here's a comparison pic of my BFG and his rifle. Overall, it makes the heights of the barrels about the same
http://www.daplane.com/50bmg/m60mod03.jpg
In my experience, the height is fine for shooting from the bench at 500yds or better, but it's too tall for shooting prone, or at closer ranges.
Here's a pic of a newbie trying out the BFG at a recent shoot:

If you like the 'wings', I believe that the Prince50 bipods are still offered with them. His 'pods aren't adjustable either, but come in two sizes as well:

Here's mine as currently configured. NXS scope in IOR rings (the ones Mark sells..) M-60 bipod and Prince50 monopod:

If you have the time, it's not that hard to shortened the M60 pod. If you're semi mechanically inclined (like me) you can do it. I shortened mine using a drill and a dremel, cleaned everything up with a belt sander and then had a friend TIG weld it back together.
The M60 pod is about 9" high and offers 4 or 5 clicks of adjustment, mine is now 7" and still offers 2 clicks of adjustment. I've emailed my plans to two other guys that have shortened their pods, if you get a pod and want the plans let me know. I think I still have a couple pics of it from when it was disassembled that I can send also.
If you like that idea you should see the .50 reloading press I designed and made(okay, so I had a machinist build it).
Hey Mr Kubota, love those pics! What happened to the 1000 yard match? Thought for sure we would see you there? |

Hey! Where are the pics of the new press???? What's it going to cost to get one?
Too little notice to get ready for that shoot at DMR.
With all the pension changes at Verizon, I've just decided to quit (retire) while I'm still ahead, so I'll likely be out by August. Then I should have plenty of time to go shooting!! _________________ Early BFG-50 in .50DTC

Sure does!
He was still getting himself set up, but the Angeles Range is mostly uphill too!
View from the bench...

Hey guys, you're a great bunch.
Mr kubota, sweet pics. I'm hoping I can find a range that within a short distance from my home where I can Stretch the .50's legs out. My 100yd home range seems woefully undersized for the gun even though I've shot several on it.
http://media.putfile.com/spraypaint that link goes to a lil Vid of a spray paint can getting hit with a with a API. Its sweet. Thats my 100yd range by the way.
http://media.putfile.com/Tannerite36 Thats a couple bottles of tannerite taped together and set of with a .50
50shooter,
Please send me a copy of the plans for the M60 Bipod. I do fabrication work on the weekends so modifying it wil be easy for me
Thanks guys,
Jason |

Yep, the Tannerite is some fun stuff!
This was a 12 bottle blast (I think?) left a pretty good sized crater.
Though CA has some pretty silly gun laws, one thing we do have is nice weather and lots of room!
Some other pics from that shoot

I see you're from NC... I once spent a summer there back in '72. Lived in Springhope. Pretty rural then, I imagine it's become a suburb of Raleigh or Rocky Mount by now though....
Sure do miss that Carolina BBQ and hushpuppies! _________________ Early BFG-50 in .50DTC

Tannerite is some kewl stuff, it amazes me everytime we shot a bottle or 3 the amount of damage it does to whatever is within a couple feet of the bottle.
I dunno if Springhope still exists or not, between Raleigh and Durham there have been alot of small communities absorbed in the name of progress
Mrkubota you're kinda tellin on yer self as to you age, in 72 my parents had been married 2 years and I didn't exist yet, feb. 1973 I made my first appearance, been shooting stuff ever since
Thanks for all the info,

Who makes it?
How much is it?
Does it work well?
Is it durable under recoil?
|
It was made by Darin (Prince50) (he mostly makes accessories for the AR50)
I'm not certain what they cost these days. Mine is the prototype and has been working on the BFG for some years now.
It does require some minor fitting with a file (at least mine did)
No problems with recoil.
Email Darin at: dlprince1@aol.com for more info.
He's headed for SHOT, so he may not be able to respond for a while.
