|
|
After doing my own DD, I decided Mark's BFG-50 with the 36" barrel was "the bomb" so I ordered one.
I understant there will be a considerable wait do to the fact the 36" (non stainless) barrels are not in stock and are on order.
It's ok... 6-8 weeks is a acceptable wait, 'course that's easy for me to say in week one
I chatted with Mark regarding a reasonably priced scope (Night Force being beyond what I wanted to spend at this time) and he gave me a suggestion. But at this point I think I would still like more zoom. I have at least 6 weeks. to figure that one out.
Anyway, nice to be here _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

Welcome and congrats on the order!
Post some pics of it when you get it...
I've had a used Leupold VX-III (6.5-22) mil-dot on mine in the past. It served very well until I was able to buy the NightForce I've got now. Just watch out for the short eye relief at magnification levels beyond 16x.
If you'll be needing a case to transport it, I've had good results with the long 'GuardForce' wheeled case:

You wouldn't happen to have known Marine Sgt Ismael (Mel) Ramirez from Oceanside, Ca back then would you? (an uncle of mine who served there about the same time) _________________ Early BFG-50 in .50DTC

Nope on knowing Sgt Ismael, sorry.
Thanks for the heads up on a case, I'll check it out.
Maybe we can get Mark to post pics of the gun as he is building it Just a thought.
I am concerned with eye relief. Just HOW MUCH recoil (to the head) do I need to adjust for? I have never shot a 50 cal before from the shoulder...I'm not concerned with shoulder recoil just don't want any more blows to the head. _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

4" of eye relief is what I like to have on my scopes.
3" is manageable as long as you're aware of it and are ready to roll with the gun.
Since your gun will likely be a bit heavier than the average. The felt recoil will be less as well. (not that it's bad anyway...)
My 29" Serbu is less punishing than a 12ga to me.
The muzzle blast from the brake is more what you'll notice when you shoot it for the first time!
Don't leave any lightweight or loose items on the benches to either side! _________________ Early BFG-50 in .50DTC

Called Serbu today and made a couple of minor changes to my order. Now my BFG 50 should be ready in a couple weeks, I believe. I just couldn't wait the possible 8 week period.
They had only the SS barrels in stock in the 36" length, so I just had them change my barrel to SS with a SS brake on it and the delay time went away.

Hey, Sniper...call the shop tomorrow (Friday). Might be able to get your gun out either Friday or Monday, but need to discuss a couple of things with you.

Will do Mark.
Guess I'd better prepare my wife for the shock of paying for it. It was a Birthday Gift as my B-Day was April 25th ....

Just got off the phone with Mark and he said he would show some pics of the BFG he is making for me (gratis my wife).
I believe he is going to show some before and after (and probably during) pics.
Mark is a really nice guy and it's a pleasure of have him make this particular BFG for me... _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

My BFG looks really sweet so far... anyone know if they work on Saturday
From comparing it to the other pics on this website it appears I have one helluva BULL BARREL attached... I love it. _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

Ok, Monday is finally here and I'm anxious to see more pictures of my BFG as it nears completion.... I hope Mark remembers to stop in periodically and keep us up to date.
From what I've seen so far it would be an understatement to say I'm very pleased ... I particularly like the BULL BARREL and I hope the finger prints get removed
I believe the overall length as posted on the website is 51 1/2 inches... it this an ACCURATE dimension... finding a 52" "drag bag" is going to be a challenge, anyone have one or know where to get one?
I will probably use it just for a carry bag if I don't go with a hard case but I still like drag bags. _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

Ok, just got a PM from Mark and my BFG was actually finished on Friday. He is a REALLY BUSY guy and I totally understand that.... he said he will post the completed pics on my BEAST tomorrow.
He also related to me that the overall length of my BFG is somewhere around 58 inches NOT 51.5.... GOOD THING the new Drag Bag is 60+"...
I can hardly wait to see the finished product tomorrow... _________________ USMC Viet Nam Vet '66-'68 Semper Fi |

Well, I woke up this morning to a SNAG.... boy I hate the incompetence of the average person today..
Since we do not keep more than about 2K in the checking portion of our accounts I (Carole that is since she is buying this for me) needed to transfer 1K from here savings account IN THE SAME BANK to her checking account IN THE SAME BANK... which is supposed to be immediate..
Serbu tried to run the card we gave them and it was declined... we called the bank and they assured us the money transferred.... and is available as we speak... talk about a rock and a hard place...
It appears we will need to go to the bank and do a face to face to be sure the job has been done correctly....
If we didn't run company business through this back to the tune of 6 digits a year I'd move our personal accounts.
Just for your knowledge: Wells Fargo Bank has agreed to give ILLEGAL ALIENS HOME LOANS... I got this from a Minuteman memo.. this ought to infuriate some of you... I know it does me, enough to make us start looking to refinance this property with another bank and at the same time transfer our personal accounts... Maybe if I was and illegal I wouldn't need to waste my time going down there today..
