Here in new york they have tried to ban(and keep trying)the 50bmg and anything .50cal and over.Since they(the scum sucking libs) have not had much success they are proposing a new federal law that any cartridge that shoots 13,000 ft pds or over will be classified an NFA weapon.50bmg is classified over 13,000 ft pds.Now it might not be a problem for some other states, but new york is not an NFA classified state. My question is what ft pounds does the 510dtc cartridge have?In the future I will have to either move,or change all of my 50bmg's to .510dtc or another chambering that will be under the 13,000 ft pd range.

50 DTC will still generate as much energy as 50 BMG so it will also be banned if that crap goes through.

Yep, DTC would be banned under those rules too...
A way to 'comply' would be to rechamber to the M48 spotter.
It's much shorter and it's normal loading would be well under that limit.
However, it can be loaded to about 90% of a BMG pretty easily too.

Another options I'm looking at, is to find some of the Barrett .416 brass and neck that back up to .50bmg. Should be easy to get it to BMG porformance while the factory specs are under the limit as well.

Third, since there is currently no SAAMI spec for any of these cartridges, we can perhaps have them define 'factory' specs that are under the limit.
Handloaders can always do whatever they want...

I was thinking the same thing about the wildcat aspect and SAAMI specs about the DTC.As long as there is nothing in print about the specs of the DTC They should'nt be able to ban it.
