Moar? Really? I guess as a pilot you're thinking "soar", so "moar" just comes naturally, right? Anyway, here's another pic. Anyone know the significance of the shirt? (aside from the fact that any normal person would have been using it for a rag by now).
P.S. Don't get me started on "i"!!
P.P.S. Turns out the finished BFG-50A weighs 23 pounds as shown!

PS: Google says the square root of -1 is actually "i". You engineer guys are pretty smart. |
Hmmm.... there's a joke in there somewhere....
long development times and imaginary numbers... _________________ Early BFG-50 in .50DTC

Sorry, I was trying to find something that phonetically indicated my desire for more pics .
23 lbs? Good thing I have a big airplane, I'm gonna need it, especially if I have a decent quantity of ammo along!

Nah, no imaginary number joke. I think someone was complaining about their job being hard and I pointed out that in college I had to do awful things like solve arrays of equations containing imaginary numbers. Back in the old days (before the HP-28S), we had to do all sorts of calculator gymnastics to convert from rectangular to polar coordinates, solve for something...don't remember...convert back to rectangular, etc. One little error in the dozens of calculations and you had to start over. It's just lucky I made it through with my sanity somewhat intact!
Hey, TC...23 pounds is LIGHT!! |

I know, that's pretty awesome. Light for a .50BMG, but way heavier than an imaginary number.

Will the civilian production rifles have the long Picatinny rail?
I'm just trying to figure out what scope ring height I'll need to clear my objective's bell housing. |

It wasn't a huge secret, but I didn't know if the customer wanted it public that their military was buying a bunch of .50 BMG rifles. In any case it's a moot point now...there's still one little bug with the rifles and we didn't ship in time. So the contract's canceled. Ouch. Remember when I said that this stuff wasn't that hard? I changed my mind...IT'S HARD!!! But I'll get it figured out. Probably take another two weeks, though.
Oh, and the t-shirt above was the same one (from SWR) I was wearing when I posed with the first BFG-50 to ship, serial number 2, back on 5/15/2000. A lot has happened since then. The friend who got #2 died a few years back from skin cancer. He was only 30 years old. Never ignore a mole! Joe Gaddini, who founded SWR, had gone on to much bigger and better things. The Grip Pod (for which I designed the rail clamp, actuating button and leg shape) is HUGE. Joe sold SWR a few years back and is semi-retired and living the good life. From time to time I stay in one of his guest houses on the compound where his 18,000 square foot main house is, down in Cape Coral, FL.

Mark, I'm really sorry to hear that news. I hope your customer renews their order when the glitch is fixed.
Speaking of which, can you share? Do you need someone to test a rifle for you ? I can put it through it's paces. We can call it "benign weather torture testing".
